Shearing Time at Millfields - Wool and Fleeces available

All our sheep have now been sheared and the hebridean and Boreray sheep produce a soft but hardwearing wool fleece.
The fleeces are available for sale at £5 each or we are happy to send to spinners and swap for a percentage of the yarn produced.
For details: http://www.rarebreedsessex.co.uk/
A number of spinners have acepted the challenge and we would like to say a big thank you to them.

Miracle at Millfields

Its a real life Miracle.... At 6am this morning, we discovered that Twix, our brown Boreray ewe had been the first to lamb but she was very distressed as there was no sign of the lamb. After hours of searching all we could find was the afterbirth and close by next to the fence was two trails of blood. We were convinced that the fox had had our first Boreray Lamb and were devastated!

9 hours later, Twix, jumps a 5 ft fence, getting out of her enclosure and goes racing up the field and there from nowhere is her lamb on the other side of the fence, after catching it and reuniting Mum and Baby, they bonded immediately with baby suckling well! This amazing little ewe lamb has been on her own for 9 hours!! Its a miracle. We've called her Mary!

Lambing Time

We are proud to announce that our clever ewes produced 20 healthy lambs this year. We will of course be keeping some to join our flock for breeding and would be grateful for some ideas for names.
Please leave suggestions below thank you!!

Protecting Our Sheep

Millfields Rare Breeds breed both Hebridean Sheep and also a critically endangered breed of Sheep called Boreray - (shown left). We are currently asking the local council planners for permission to live on our smallholding in order to give our Sheep the protection and level of welfare they deserve. Please leave any comments of support below. thank you.
